Crown Xti Software

I recently bought a Crown XTi 4002 http://www.crownaudio.com/en/products/xti-4002 (1200W/channel with my current application). And the bass player in my band bought a pair of EV215s http://www.electrovoice.com/product.php?id=1073 (600W Cont.)
My questions is do I need to set up the limiters in the power amp (PeakX Plus Limiters) to protect the speakers, or should I just leave it alone, watch my levels, and adjust my Gain Controls as necessary (depending on room/venue size).
And if I do need to adjust the limiters, what do I set them to? I have been trying to find some reliable information regarding how to set your power amps limiters based on the speakers you're using, and I'm having a tough time finding information that I can understand. I just want to protect my gear and provide for some longevity and sound quality on a budget.
Side note: The software that allows you to adjust the limiters and other DSP isn't available on Mac which has been frustrating. So I have the 3 front panel buttons to work with. Also, I've left DSP off, because, like I said my setup is : Mixer -> Crown XTi 4002 (set in stereo, DSP off) -> Channel 1 (EV215) Channel 2 (EV215).
My humble thanks

What does all of this mean when it comes to system performance? Let’s take a deeper dive into these feature-packed amps.

Available in 500W, 800W, 1,200W and 2,100W configurations, XTi 2 amps are ideal for portable and installed sound-reinforcement applications.

A QUICK POWER PRIMER
When selecting an amplifier, power and headroom are your most important considerations.

When you’re matching an amplifier to a P.A. speaker setup, a good rule of thumb is to pick an amp that can deliver power equal to twice the speaker’s program/continuous power rating. For example, a speaker with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and a program rating of 400 watts will require an amplifier that can produce 800 watts into an 8-ohm load. If you’re powering a stereo pair, the amplifier should be rated at 800 watts per channel into 8 ohms.

Allowing sufficient amplifier headroom, the room between normal and maximum distortion-free operating levels, ensures that the amp sends clean, undistorted power to your P.A. speakers. Music’s dynamic peaks and valleys place wildly fluctuating demands on your system, so make sure it always has room to operate at peak performance without clipping.

When determining the power requirements for your system, it’s important to understand the requirements of the application. Pushing an amp to power a speaker it wasn’t designed for is asking for equipment damage.

With four power configurations, there’s a Crown XTi 2 amplifier that meets your needs. The series of two-channel amps includes the XTi 1002, offering 500W continuous/channel at 4 ohms; the XTi 2002, offering 800W continuous/channel at 4 ohms; the XTi 4002, offering 1,200W continuous/channel at 4 ohms and the XTi 6002, offering 2,100W continuous/channel at 4 ohms. Let’s look at how that power breaks down:

Take a look at the chart to find the Crown XTi 2 Series amplifier that best suits your needs.

As you can see, Crown XTi 2 Series amps offer incredible output capability—up to 6,000W for the XTi 6002 in bridged 4Ω mode—in sleek, lightweight boxes. But with the XTi 2 Series, power is just the beginning.

DELVING INTO DSP
When you choose an amplifier with integrated DSP, you’ll avoid the expense of outboard speaker processing gear while ensuring your system is operating at maximum performance and sounding as great as possible in any scenario. When it comes to internal processing, modern amplifiers continue to grow more and more sophisticated, and the XTi 2 Series leads the way in this arena. Let’s take a look under the hood.

Filters
Crown XTi 2 amps feature a flexible set of crossover filters that let you set highpass and lowpass frequencies for each channel, plus up to 15 dB of bandpass gain; select from Butterworth and Linkwitz-Riley topologies with a choice of cutoff slopes.

EQ
XTI 2 amps offer multiband parametric EQs on both input and output: An advanced 8-band EQ features six fully parametric bands with high and low-shelving bands; each band can be boosted or cut 15 dB.

Crown Xti 2002, 4002 and 6002 amplifiers helped power the HARMAN Professional audio solution at Eon Clublex Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia.

Limiter
Built-in limiters maximize signal levels while preventing distortion, overload and clipping and protecting in-ear monitor wearers from dangerous spikes in volume. XTi 2 amps feature Crown’s PeakX Plus Limiters, which give users complete control over threshold, attack and release. This next-gen processing offers advanced loudspeaker protection, especially in the low-frequency range.

HiQnet Band Manager
HARMAN’s HiQnet software facilitates complete network control of HARMAN products including Crown amps, JBL speakers, BSS speaker management and dbx signal processing. XTi 2 Series amps are compatible with the HiQnet Band Manager application, which simplifies system setup and management by letting performers configure advanced amp functions using an intuitive, easy-to-navigate interface.

Band Manager lets users manage up to eight USB-connected XTi 2 amplifiers: Once the software has discovered the amps, represented in a virtual rack, the included JBL speaker tunings can be easily loaded into each amplifier. Band Manager’s home screen automatically configures and displays monitor strips for each amp in the rack and provides quick access to each amplifier’s processing. Amp settings can be saved for quick front-panel recall.

Audio Architect
The HiQnet Audio Architect software application configures and controls a wide range of professional installed sound systems. System design approach is centered on operational workflow, using a diagrammatic representation of a physical venue. Devices “learn” their physical and logical placement, and the software becomes “educated” about how the gear is used in the real world. Audio Architect then automates many laborious system design tasks; for example, interfaces for controlling and monitoring groups of devices are generated automatically. Its simple, drag-and-drop networking interface provides system-wide networked audio routing and offers advanced tools for creating custom panels and logic rules and configuring access control.

Providing an enhanced learning environment, Crown XTi 2 Series amps help power the HARMAN Professional audio solution at Rambhai Barni Rajabhat University in Thailand.

Thermal Management and System Monitoring
Fans operate at three user-definable speeds to match fan performance to system applications. System monitoring lets you keep an eye on AC line voltage and power supply temperature, ensuring consistent performance even in venues with less-than-deal power conditions.

Once you dial in the perfect settings for your system and application, you can save everything in one of 30 preset locations.
