Dolnet Bel Air Tenor. #33,xxx from the late 1940's, serial number charts do not exist for these horns. Its a distinctive looking and playing horn with a warm smoky feel all its own. Incredibly distinctive styling contribute to a wonderful and very underrated instrument. Although, as the chart below illustrates, the Mark VI was produced until (roughly) serial #378000, this applies only to the Sopranino model. The Soprano, Baritone and Bass Mark VI saxophones were produced until serial #365000 in 1984, and Alto and Tenor Mark VI production ended (approximately) in. Even within the same model, the pad sizes used to pad a sax seems to be something that changes. Ferree's Music in Battle Creek, Michigan keeps a file card record of pad sizes for many different makes. They even make note of the serial number. I have since gotten the Dolnet, New Aristo, and 26M mentioned above in and played the Dolnet and the 26M vs. The Modell 3- the New Aristo needs an overhaul first. Although the Dolnet and 26M weren’t in what I would consider perfect playing condition, the Modell 3 still won in terms of sound in my book- although the other horns look quite a.
